I would like to share a couple of very amusing WoW related news items.

1) From the world of politics come the news that a politician was criticised over her WoW hobby. Apparently, not only does she play WoW, she was also an orc rogue.

2) The second news item is that someone hacked WoW and killed everyone, NPCs included.
This one seems to be the combination of the corrupted Blood incident in 2005 and the uber player that was able to kill the WoW administrators in a South Park episode in 2006.

Read, watch, enjoy yourself.

P.S. In other news, I reinstalled WoW. This time there is no 10 day restriction for the trial, only the level cap. Is it a sign that they are considering going free to play? It's too bad I am now waiting to invest my time in the new Neverwinter MMORG (unfortunately release has been delayed).

the up to level 20 trial has been available for a while, seeing as it only takes a couple of hours to get to that level and the top level is now 90 I don't think you get to play enough of the game to see how boring it is (sorry, personal experience).
I like how they say they don't know how they did the attack but that its been fixed, something doesn't sound right there

2's compliment, 3's a crowd

Also the game is now full of pandas. And there was me worrying they were an endangered species :)

Well, as i said i installed WoW again, and i saw the pandas (can't play one in trial though). I don't know what to make of them. Every other race in WoW has some basis or analog in serious fantasy literature or game lore. The pandaren are just talking pandas. It sounds as if they came out of a children book. The only good thing about them is that they can choose sides (but not switch after that, as far as i know).

Trying WoW again after all this time, it seemed to me to have aged somewhat. The interface felt cranky and restricting, the graphics lost their appeal, and the quest system is too simple for my taste. So i' ll stick with lotro for the time being. Until neverwinter comes out.

According to an article I read pandas are supposed to make the game more appealing to Chinese players - seems like WoW is far more successful in the far east those days. As I am not a WoW player I have no strong feeling about the matter but I know at least two players that were unhappy about them. Difficult to keep evrybody happy I guess.

It didn't occir to me up to now. The chinese-oriental themes, the pandas being a symbol of chinese nature... Trully, it seems the article you mentioned i at least partly correct. On the other hand, it may also be that they wanted to do something new and different, to beat the competition. One stone, two birds.

Their competition seems to be rising, though. Age of conan went free to play, neverwinter will be coming out soon and lotro just introduced mounted combat. It's hard to imagine any further major innovations in wow.
