Feck Yahoo
(jlucard, 18:44:14 - 31 Jul 2012 - / )

Ever woke up in the morning (ok, more like mid afternoon) only to find out that the world around you had been spinning again and you didn’t even notice. That sort of happens to me a lot during the last few days. First the Olympics arrived and I did not even realise something was up until the mother unit called 5 minutes before the big ceremony begun. A day or so later I decided to go out during daytime to get some supplies and got ambushed by a giant lady Godiva riding some sort of bicycle powered Trojan horse with insufficient panelling. To top it up yesterday my internet connection mysteriously died for 19 hours and 11 minutes. Finally after 22 coffees and a gazillion of cigars it came up today. Five minutes latter I got my email blocked temporarily because of clicking yahoo’s not now button on a pop up regarding their new terms and conditions. Slow down damn it. Stop doing things without my permission, or at least tell my electronic disorganiser not to tell me something in advance.

I know I should have been reading the news, talking to other humanoids and checking those emails with the word important on the title. I just couldn’t be bothered – every once in a while I like to shut down for a while and do no more than the absolutely necessary tasks for survival, such as drinking more coffee, cooking badly, almost washing the dishes and attempting to kill myself while gardening. Unfortunately however those annoying humans that I have the misfortune to share my planet with carry on doing things and, predictably enough, without me helpfully explaining to them that they are idiots they mess everything up. Apparently while sleepwalking in my comfortable semi detached cave I missed big time in a number of major disasters and events, such as the queen not jumping from a helicopter and the yahoo directors plotting against me once more (they started it by offering a search mail facility that only works properly on leap years).

This last thing really bothers me (well more than just about absolutely everything else that is). You see apparently yahoo is from now on going to be reading both my inbound and outbound emails for “advertising” reasons. I normally can’t be bothered to bother about the typical attempts of their board to alienate their last few remaining customers and bankrupt the company – the fact that they are still here show they can’t even do that right, right. However this is personal. I bet they are onto me and my world domination plans. This outrageous violation of my privacy makes me angry – how dare they come up with a better plan than I did. Naturally I plan to retaliate by sitting angrily in my comfy chair and sipping coffee in a loud noisy annoying way until they die slowly of natural causes. That will show them. In the meantime I demand that you my minions keep on not emailing me even if by some miracle did happen to know my email address. I might email you when I get a new account with a more overlord friendly provider once I run out of coffee - if I can be bothered to do so that is.

i would like to point out that you own multiple domain names, you dont need yahoo, hotmail, gmail or any other intrusive company trying to invade our privacy claiming to be looking for better ads to provide us. everybody including mother units know that if you click on an ad your computer gets a virus and you have to put it down. and because that rule is true on all the fun sites out there, we also apply it to the useful ones

You are indeed partial right - I mean I do own a domain name and mother unit indeed would not click on any adverts. She would if she could figure out what the mouse is for I guess, but for as long as she keeps on shutting down my computer by unplugging it from the mains I think there is little chance of her messing up the internet - this is a good thing. The thought of my parent units accidentally finding out there is porn on the internet is rather terrifying. Would any of you minions like to test a gdchaos.net account btw?

Unfortunately i have two yahoo.mail accounts that i will have to abandon. I have a gmail account but logging in means being instantly logged in on a milion other google services i know nothing about (could be even worse than having my mail read). Anybody know of a decent email provider without important issues? Would the new microsoft outlook service be any good? it's replacing hotmail, i was told.

Now, if you really plan on making email accounts, i wouldn't mind helping you test. An alternative email account might be good, if you can build it, but if i were you i wouldn't go near it if it means spending more money. Only the space required for the file attachments could be a money pit. Plus, most of us will probably not use it longterm.

P.S. I have to say, having your mail read would be a crime in some countries, even if you agreed to it, because general terms and conditions can be declared invalid by a court of law (as an abuse of right by the yahoo company). I know, it could be done in Greece, for instance, but i have no knowledge of English law on this matter.

it is very strictly illegal to read someone elses mail in the UK. infact, because most mail is deliverd via the "royal mail" i think intercepting someones mail may even be classed as an offence against the queen. can't be 100% on that though. the problem is, although technology has come a long way email isn't given the same rights as mail in all cases. for some reason any email you would get on a yahoo account would be classed as yahoos email which you are privalaged to read. but these things do change when smart angry people find the time to take them to court.

as for a gdchaos account, you do have 2 obvious options. you could have a set amount of webmail space set for everybody or people could be forced to tie it to something like outlook express so that they have hard drive sized mailbox but isnt accesible everywhere. don't know about using microsofts webmail service along with a personal email address. most likely they will try to make claim over your mail since you would be using their service.

if its just for you though most hosts (atleast the 1s i looked at) give you something like 2GB webmail storage, take a look at what your using

NesCartesius your gdchaos.net email account has been created. It has 1 giga space and 50mb attachment limit. Sorry can't give you more space as I got 10 giga all in all, 1.7 of which is already in use. Now all you need to do is go to webmail.gdchaos.net and guess your 24 characters long password - good luck, you are going to need it :)

Nope. There is no way he will ever guess it - the password is pretty complicated and random. The trick is I have already told him the password sometime before creating his account but without telling him that it was a password and that I intended to make an account for him. Insidentally at the moment I am talking to him on msn - he is looking for 24 digit prime numbers, lol.

Haha... throwing the password in a random conversation and expecting me remember it exactly... very clever... At least you were kind enough to throw in some hints..

this all seems a bit pointless if he's just going to change it to pa55w0rd when he gains access anyway. lol

I resent that... My passwords are among the most complicated and secure in the web.. In fact, i have lost two email accounts in the past, because the password was too complicated to remember... :(

P.S. Access achieved, if anyone cares
