Some news... During the last week we had a number of problems involving spammers, some hacker in Sweden and our old server having stability problems. We now moved to a new server but somehow the database became corrupt! The good news is the site is up again. The bad news is a number of things do not appear to work properly. We are still open for bussiness as usual but there might be some further downtime later on as I try to address those issues. The new server should improve uptime in the long run, but in the meantime I shall enjoy you suffering. Your beloved oppressor.

Me, your favourite oppressor, decided to do some advertising. The aim is to attract new users for gdchaos.net by means of giving puny mortals money to add our awesome cool logo to their websites. I started by VS Games, an academic conference. Sponsoring an academic conference might sound like a peculiar choice, but then again they do some interesting work and I did have to start somewhere. Also I happen to know one of the guys presenting there this year. All tremble before me.

I guess an official statement is in order as GD is also a place for learning. The overlords of chaos do not approve of tuition fees. Roads, education and other public services are exactly the reason we pay taxes –paid for already and much more useful than costly and pointless wars taking place in the middle of nowhere (where on earth is Afghanistan again?). The same empty arguments that were used today in parliament to justify their decision could as easily had been applied towards justifying charging NHS patients, road users and elementary school children. All those things already paid for, available only to those willing to pay for them again. The words "horse" and "shit" come to mind. As such, our official position in regards to this issue is that this country is run by corrupt fat-pocket elitist bastards. If you find this post offensive then it is your problem.

A very quick update - the only thing changed is the friends list. Added this cool website called DotGif, If you never been there before do so now. DofGif is an on-line comic that is so meta that there are no words to describe../../.. All hail Hypnotoad.

Every single user so far has asked the question - how can I see a list of the rest of the users? Decided to finally implement this feature. If you are logged in then a link to the list of users should appear in the who is on-line block - "registered users". Also been experimenting with the registration process.

Updated website engine. Seems to be working - let me now if you encounter any problems. Hic.

Not much of a new version really. Most of the time was spent on checking visitor IP addresses against a database of known forum troublemakers. This was a quite time consuming yet necessary exercise – automating this could save a lot of time. The new magic word for those who wish to register is the last word of this post. On a different topic, does anyone know if European swallows can carry coconuts?

The original website for Games Developers is now officially dead. As such www.gdchaos.net is now the official and lone games developers’ website. Killing the old website before the new one was completed was not desirable. However the ageing software solution that powered it had numerous security vulnerabilities. Furthermore hardly anyone was using the old website anymore. I realise that shutting it down so soon and with the minimal amount of forewarning might have caused inconvenience to some people. It was however inevitable that it would happen at some point and bringing that date forward was the only reasonable thing to do when considering the circumstances.

A new section has been added to the forum. The voices in my head told me to do it. They said that it will keep the chicken happy. The new improved GD chaos now features a mad scientist laboratory forum. This is the place to discuss hardware, as opposed to software related, issues. Ta…
